Scandal Review

The wildly popular Scandal stars Kerry Washington as the larger-than-life crisis management fixer Olivia Pope who lives and works in the corrupt halls of power in DC. The political thriller packs a lot of drama into each episode with cliffhangers, plot twists and double crosses that are sure to keep viewers tuned in. Thousands of tweets per minute and millions of tweets per season make it one of the most tweeted shows in TV history. Social media also provides a communal watch experience for the series and ensures that audiences are able to avoid spoilers before each episode airs.

Scandal is a story about scandal that takes place in a highly regulated society, where it is not uncommon for sex, drugs and money to find their way into the wrong hands. It’s a seedy tale that understands why people sometimes sleep in the wrong beds and reveals, with sadness, what happens when those affairs are exposed.

The cast of this evocative movie includes a number of British stars such as Joanne Whalley, Bridget Fonda and John Hurt who were at the peak of their careers at the time of filming. While some have objected to the gloss given to this sorry affair by some of Hollywood’s finest actors, it’s a fascinating look at a very public downfall with an excellent script by the writer of The Great Escape. The film also benefits from the sympathetic portrayal of Keeler by Paul Caton-Jones.
